Glass
Toni Reinis
The inherent beauty of glass promotes passion (and addiction) to the creation of art. The discovery of this nearly 30 years ago has led me to a journey of learning, growth and sharing. Upon completion of years of medical education and training, I began to look for outlets with which to expand my world from that singular focus. Having not previously thought of myself as an artist, that first glass class in 1996 took me by surprise. It was love at first sight!
In the beginning I focused on cold working, designing and creating leaded and foiled windows. This is an art form for anyone who loves color and enjoys working with their hands. The glass itself sparks creativity and the process provides a place for meditation. Over time I have continued to learn new methods and techniques in the art of glass, moving from cold working to kiln working. With the addition of heat comes the understanding that glass can be a liquid, able to be fused and slumped and stretched. This has provided more freedom for experimentation - How will the glass move if I try this or change that variable?
I encourage anyone who has never considered that they have artistic talent to look into working with art glass. I believe there is an artist in all of us - once the right medium is discovered!
