Contemplations in Clay

“For me, working with clay is a form of meditation. When using a potters’ wheel, first one must center oneself, only then can you center the clay. With the mind resting, the fingers and clay engage in sensory dialogue and the clay begins to move and take form. This is a training and a skill that is honed through years of practice and many collapsed pots! I hope that my work holds a bit of the peace and joy with which it was created.”

Her hand made pieces bring daily delight to those who enjoy eating or drinking from one-of-a-kind items that have been made with care. She works mostly in porcelain which is high fired. All pieces are food safe and can be placed in the microwave, oven, or dishwasher.

Julie is an owner of OVA Arts Gallery as well as being a founder and Director of Ojai Pottery and Clay School.
