Jim Bayless focuses on lapidary with a contemporary flavor. When selecting, cutting, and polishing his gems he emphasizes the beauty of each. His creative design work ranges from Egyptian inspired scarabs to classic rings and pendants in silver and gold. Sometimes he sneaks in unique fossils and bones to surprise and delight his customers.
His multiple award-winning designs include a series of beautiful banded agates set in the heart of an orchid crafted in sterling 14K / 18K gold and precious and semi precious stones. Jim personally cuts most of his own designer cut stones. He is also inspired by nature with a series of sterling fishes with bodies made of his hand cut stones including dramatic ocean jasper. Jim began his studies in jewelry, gem cutting and geology in 1969. Jim sees his stones as hiding treasures that are waiting for him to find their inner beauty through their shape, size, pattern, hardness and durability that he brings out with his tools and expertise.
